Whenever you handle firearms, safety needs to be at the forefront of your mind. This video lays out the best rules for safe firearm handling at the shooting range and anywhere else.
Point Down Range
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. This will change based on where you are, but at the range, it’s downrange.
Trigger Discipline
Always keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot. This will ensure there are no accidental discharges that may kill or injure yourself and others.
Keep Your Gun Unloaded
Keep your weapon unloaded until you’re ready to shoot. It is not enough to take the magazine out. You need to check and make sure there isn’t a round in the chamber, too. Even when the gun is unloaded, adhere to rules one and two.
Know Your Target & Beyond
Know what your target is and what lays beyond or behind it. Bullets will usually go straight through the target, so it’s important to have a safe backdrop like a mound of dirt.
Adhering to these rules will make your trips to the shooting range, or any other time you handle your gun, a safe and fun activity. For more information on gun safety, click on the link to the video above.
