What’s even more exciting than watching sports on TV? Playing them with family and friends! Besides being exciting and a great way to develop team spirit, playing sports can also improve your cardiovascular endurance and health, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There are roughly 36 million kids and teens that play organized sports every year. Roughly 65% of the youth that participate in sports do so to spend time with their friends. Furthermore, it may be surprising to learn that 71% of these individuals don’t even care about keeping score. It’s safe to say that they just love being with each other and part of the team.

A Pew Research study showed that since the 1970s, fathers are spending more time taking care of their children. In fact, the time they’re spending with them has nearly tripled! While 71% of mothers continue to work outside the home, they, too, are spending up to 57% more time with their children.

Something else that’s interesting to note is that 67% of American teenagers do want to spend more time with their mothers and fathers. Playing sports or engaging in other physical activities, such as ice skating, is an excellent way to accomplish this goal. In 2014 alone, approximately 10.65 million people aged 6 and above spent time ice skating.

Just imagine if you had a homemade ice rink in your back yard! Building a backyard ice skating rink can be a great way to spend quality time with family, friends, and neighbors. In addition to ice rink brackets to create the basic form, you’ll also need an ice rink liner and a protective tarp for when it’s not in use.

Once you learn how to build a homemade ice rink, you can assign specific tasks so that everyone is involved in the process. This includes having a cheering section as the home ice rink’s completion approaches the finish line.

If you, your family, and friends love ice skating, you may want to learn how to play hockey, too. This vigorous sport is a great form of exercise and can bring hours of fun and excitement.
