How does rolling and shaving a bat increase performance?

Posted on March 11, 2021 by Tennis Serve Tips

Softball is one of America’s most popular sports and for good reason, you get all the same workouts you would from a regular baseball game but with a softer ball and an easier and slower pitch. There are unique ways of improving performance when preparing to play softball and fastpitch baseball and that is by using rolled and shaved bats. You can find rolled bats for sale in a number of locations but you may want to do your homework first to learn more about the process and whether or not you are allowed a modified bat within your league.

A rolled bat is created by a process that breaks in the barrel to give the bat a more trampoline effect thus increasing the speed of a batted ball. Much like breaking in your mitt before a game, it is a good idea to break in your bat to ensure you are at the top of your game. You can find rolled bats for sale that have been tried and tested for the maximum gaming experience. Bats increase their velocity when heated so the process of bat rolling is to place the bat between two rollers until the fibers stretch. A shaved bat is one that has had the end cap removed to shave the inner walls creating more of a trampoline effect. Shaved and rolled softball bats can be a great way to become a better ballplayer, even if you are not allowed to use the modified equipment in a professional league you can use them for practice which can help improve your basic skills and confidence in the field.

Bats require rolling when they are created to ensure they can withstand a certain amount of hitting when being used, but you can take them to the next level and increase the trampoline effect. Remember to properly care for your equipment as shaved bats do not do well in the cold, do not use it if the temperature is below 65 degrees outside.

Modifying your softball equipment is definitely something you can look into as a ballplayer but ensure you are aware of the rules before seeking rolled bats for sale. How can you tell if a bat has been shaved and rolled? When a bat hits a ball it will almost always leave some form of indent, after a bat has been rolled or shaved the indents will stretch and look more like lines rather than a solid indentation. Take a look at your bat next time you play and see if you can spot the difference, if you buy a bat and then get it rolled and shaved test it on the field to see first hand the increased performance of the bat.
